DIY: Essential Oil Blends to Diminish Stress

Some of my favorite yoga classes are slower restorative classes or meditation focused classes that include the use of essential oils.There is something about the combination of yoga, meditation and essential oils that is truly calming and peaceful. Essential oils have been used for centuries to aid in physical pain relief as well as emotional healing. Each oil has its own therapeutic properties. By learning how to combine oils, you can tailor your own oil blend to your specific needs for emotional balance and re-create that calming peaceful environment at work, home, or wherever you feel stressed.

*Essential oils are extremely concentrated, so they need to be combined with a carrier oil such as sweet almond oil, grapeseed oil, jojoba oil or castor oil.*

Here are a few of my favorite recipes to relieve stress. Put the blend in a small dropper bottle and roll between your hands to mix. Put a few drops on your temples or wrists throughout the day to calm stress or rub a few drops between your hands and inhale the scent for an instant calming feeling. If you're at home, put a few drops in a bath for a peaceful calming soak.

Rosemary Bliss

6 drops rosemary oil

2 drops peppermint oil

4 drops lavender oil

4 tablespoons carrier oil

Sweet Lavender

7 drops lavender oil

5 drops roman chamomile oil

3 drops tangerine

5 tablespoons carrier oil

Balancing Blend

6 drops Ylang-Ylang

3 drops Orange

2 drops Bergamot

3 drops Grapefruit

8 drops Patchouli

3 tablespoons carrier oil
